OPENUU is an award-winning interdisciplinary design studio based in Hong Kong, founded in Boston, MA in 2011.

Under Caroline Chou and Kevin Lim‘s leadership and vision, OPENUU design team brings their international background, unique design aesthetics and vision to approach each project with playful pragmatism and a focus on society and engagement to create innovative spaces for all to enjoy. The team provides architecture, interior, branding, and product design services. Together, the design duo creates spaces that encompass the surrounding environments and lifestyles through unique and dynamic design. OPENUU creates to engage with people and engages with people to create.

OPENUU has been featured in a range of international press, including Archdaily, Dezeen, Designboom, Architizer, Design Anthology, HYPEBEAST, CNN Go, SCMP, and Wall Street Journal.

Caroline and Kevin are awarded Best-of-Year Awards and Recognition by Interior Design. OPENUU is named one of Hong Kong’s top 40 designers under 40 in 2012 by Perspective Magazine 2012, and Caroline and Kevin are also selected as 40 under 40 Top Designers by Guangzhou Design Week in 2018.

OPENUU’s growing clientele include Nike, Swire Properties, RIL CREED, Henderson Land, K11 New World Properties, Havaianas, Osage Gallery, Para/Site and FoFo by el Willy.


Kevin Lim 林振國

Managing Director 董事總經理 / Founding Partner

Kevin Lim founded OPENUU in 2011. He was born in Massachusetts and spent his life in Hong Kong and the United States. He received his Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University’s College of Architecture, Art & Planning and an Associate of Applied Science from Le Cordon Bleu.

Honing in on his expansive educational background in design and architecture and the culinary industry, Kevin worked in the architectural office of T.A.T. of Boston, Massachusetts and as a chef in the kitchen of Blue Ginger of Wellesley, Massachusetts, before co-founding the OPENUU design studio and establishing OPENUU’s presence in Hong Kong.

Now, as Managing Director, Kevin has spearheaded, managed, and delivered an extensive portfolio of OPENUU projects that have won four Best-of-Year Awards by Interior Design magazine, along with Perspective magazine’s 40-under-40 Award, and 40 under 40 Designer Award in China (Hong Kong) 中國設計傑出青年, by Guangzhou Design Week.

Additionally, Kevin has continued to advocate of the value of architecture through the AIA, where he serves as the 2019 President of the AIA Hong Kong Chapter.

Caroline Chou 周志憶

Design Director 設計總監 / Partner

Caroline was born in Texas, and spent her life in Taiwan and the United States. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Wellesley College, and Master of Architecture from Rhode Island School of Design. Caroline, an Associate AIA member, volunteers at the AIA Hong Kong Chapter as the Young Architects Group Chair, providing her expertise and passion to the community of young individuals who have made significant contributions to the architecture profession early in their careers. She also conducts student interviews for Wellesley College as an Alumnae Admission Representative.

Prior to her role at OPENUU, Caroline worked in the architecture and design offices of Steven Leach International in Taipei, Taiwan, and CL3 Architects in Hong Kong - all of which gave Caroline the expansive industry knowledge that she now brings to her current role as Design Director of OPENUU.

As Design Director/Partner, Caroline brings experience ranging from small retail spaces and dynamic F&B spaces to large-scale residential and commercial towers in Hong Kong, including H.Bonaire and LT commercial building. She also received Interior Design's Best-of-Year recognition in 2017 for her work as the Design Lead on Mean Noodles. In 2019, Caroline received recognition for 40 under 40 Designer Award in China (Hong Kong) 中國設計傑出青年, by Guangzhou Design Week.
